Hi! It’s me Alix again. I know what you’re thinking…when is Zoya going to pull her weight on here? Truthfully, I’m thinking the same thing. This is called A to Z, not a to a!!! But it’s ok, I do have a lot to say in the meantime. The truth is this is a side project that I kind of sprang up on her in a matter of days. I tend to do that, live on a whim. That’s just a dreamier way to say I’m impulsive, but it’s served me well this far.
Writing a weekly newsletter seemed daunting to me, kinda like the prospect of marriage seems daunting. It’s just one big fat indefinite commitment, and I’m the girl who lives on a whim. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not afraid of commitment, I still want to get married (hopefully to Zoya??!!!), & I still want to write a weekly letter to you! Sometimes (all the times) it’s more digestible to focus on the smaller steps right in front of you than it is the bigger leaps way up ahead. So I thought it was a genius idea to split up the work between the two of us. If we both switch off writing you’re less likely to get sick of me, and plus everything is more fun when we do it together. But the thing is, Zoya is off building a goddamn company (rude) and I am here in bed, typing out tangents and wondering if the color of the subscribe button is the right tone of orangey red. Speaking of the subscribe button, have you clicked it yet?
Now back to Zoya & the company she’s building. It’s a vegan raw fish alternative called Fysh Foods. As someone who grew up with a fish aversion, it’s a delicious & very needed product!!! I’m sure she will talk more about start-up life and all that fun stuff if your interested, so I’ll keep it brief but we just returned from a long weekend trip to the East Coast. Zoya spoke on a plant-based products panel at Duke University (along with the president of Impossible!!!) and then we popped over to hang out with some friends in New York. I almost convinced everyone to road-trip the 6 hours up to Buffalo to catch the eclipse in the path of totality (see I really am that impulsive) but I guess we will have to wait until 2044 for that. *Cue the sweet feeling of regret.*

We spent such a short time in Raleigh, we didn’t see much more than the inside of a gay bar called Queeny’s (although I will say their chicken tenders were delicious). We ate our way through New York, including a beautiful Persian feast at Sofreh (special shoutout to their incredible cocktails, we may or may not have tried them all). On our last day I ate three bagels from Pop Up and two pieces of pizza from DOP in Brooklyn. I highly recommend both places however I highly do not recommend eating that much bread at once because the heartburn & acid reflux that ensued was GUT WRENCHING, literally.

Our flight back home to LA was moved from a very reasonable 9pm to 1:30 AM, which meant we landed back in Los Angeles in the wee hours of the morning (wee meaning 4 freakin’ AM). The only plus side was evading all the NY & LA traffic, it’s wild to learn how close LAX really is to us when the roads are virtually empty at 4am. We have been home furiously resting & recovering from our travels (and bread gate) before we pack up and head off to Coachella in two days (but by the time you’re reading this we will be on our way). As a ripe *almost* 31 year old (next week!!!) my Coachella days may be numbered, but I plan on living it up while I can.
Coachella is our last bit of (planned) travel for a while. For the bulk of this year so far we have been away, which has been fun but frankly pretty exhausting. After this weekend I am so looking forward to putting away the suitcase, settling in at home, getting back into our routines, and most importantly TO START COOKING & SHOOTING (god I sound old). People keep asking me when I will have my YouTube comeback and to that I say…be careful what you wish for. 😉
And with that I really need to go figure out my Coachella outfits.
A out ❤️
